Celebrities amass huge amounts of fame and fortune, but they also make sure that they pay it forward. Money isn’t the only way they help the community. Sometimes it makes a huge difference to simply be an ambassador or helping out in areas that need it the most. Here are a couple of celebrities who have shown that there’s almost no limit to charity!

Justin Bieber

Bieber might not be considered “good” in many people’s books, but he did make a positive difference in the world. He was recently the first recording artist to make over 200 Make-A-Wish kid’s dreams come true. He also raised over $1,164,027 in just a few days to contribute to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts. Additionally, he supports the Pencils of Promise charity in building schools in developing countries.

Ian Somerhalder

Not many people know that Somerhalder actually started his own foundation that’s dedicated to the planet and its creatures. Most of his fans may know him as bad vampire, but he’s really got a big heart in real life. He has raised hundred of thousands of dollars for environmental and animal rights causes. He also supports the It Gets Better Project, a campaign dedicated to prevent suicide among LGBT youth.

Alicia Keys

During the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan, Keys visited and gave aid to survivors of the calamity. She definitely brought smiles to their faces by entertaining the children relocated at an army base judging by the photos that were released. She also founded the Keep a Child Alive foundation to support families with HIV/AIDS. Additionally, she headlined The Global Citizen Festival in NYC to raise awareness towards ending poverty.

Jamie Gertz

In 2011, the Giving Back Fund reported that Gertz and her husband to be the number one celebrity donor to any charity. She donated over $10.6 million to the Ressler-Gertz Foundation and the organization gave grants to museums and medical centers. She’s definitely one of the most generous celebrities out there.

One Direction 

This boy band raised over €2 million to help people in Africa and the United Kingdom who are experiencing sever poverty and injustice. This happened when they performed the song One Way or Another for Red Nose Day 2013. In addition, they also brought in $784,345 in donations to help support research to cure cancer. It appears that these boys can make a huge difference by using their influence and fame over young girls for good.

Taylor Swift

According to DoSomething.org, Taylor Swift is the most charitable celebrity of 2013 for the second year in a row. She recently headlined an event that helped raised funds for an organization supporting people experiencing homelessness. The star was also reported to have donated $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony to celebrate her 24th birthday. Additionally, she habitually donates money to several causes and participates in programs to raise awareness.

Leonardo DiCaprio

This megastar is a committed environmentalist and is also widely known for his activism. DiCaprio once donated a million dollars to the Wildlife Conservation Society at Russia’s tiger summit and that’s just one example of his commitment to the environment. In 1998, he also donated $35,000 for a computer center at the Los Angeles Public Library after it was hit by an earthquake. Last year, he donated $61,000 to GLAAD, an organization that promotes the image of LGBT in media.

Oprah Winfrey

In 2012, Winfrey reportedly gave away roughly $400 million to educational causes. Her charity Oprah’s Angel Network raised more than $80 million. It supported charitable projects and provided grants to nonprofit organizations around the world until it dissolved. She also invested in over $40 mil

Sandra Bullock

Bullock is is reported to have donated $1 million to the American Red Cross at least four times in response to natural disasters worldwide. She also joined a couple of celebrities in a public service announcement for a petition calling for clean-up efforts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. She also supports the Texas non-profit organization The Kindred Life Foundation, Inc.

George Clooney

Clooney isn’t only known for being Hollywood’s former perennial bachelor. He is also known for his humanitarian work and political activism. In 2010, he organized a telethon to collect donation for the Haiti earthquake victims. He also offered to auction himself out for a date to benefit an organization that aims to create a space space for LGBT children in schools. Additionally, he is continuously involved with Not On Our Watch Project, an organization that aims to stop and prevent mass atrocities.

Susan Sarandon

In 1999, Sarandon was appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. She supports over 34 charities and that includes ones she has started on her own. She participates in several programs that raise funds and awareness to certain causes. She notably supports campaigns against racism and LGBT discrimination among many others.
