As of now, the dead student’s mother, Gaury Acharya, has been highlighted as she has expressed concern after her son went missing.

However, it is difficult to tell of the student’s father’s details.

Neel was reported missing the same day by his mother, showing concern about her son’s safety as she took to several social media platforms, appealing for news regarding her son’s whereabouts.

In a Facebook post, the missing student’s mother, who lives in India, expressed concern that her son Neel Acharya, a student attending Purdue University, went missing.

As suggested by the post, Acharya’s mother revealed that her son vanished on Sunday morning when returning to his dorm from a dance competition.

Moreover, Gauri added that her son was last seen by an Uber driver who dropped him off at the University.

On Twitter, Neel’s mother appealed:

Our son Neel Acharya is missing since 28 January 28 12:30 AM EST. He is a student at Purdue University in the US.

My son was last seen by an Uber driver who dropped him off in Purdue University. We are looking for any information useful to locate him. Please let us if you know anything.

Likewise, the post caught the attention of the Consulate General of India in Chicago.

The Consulate General replied to her post, stating, “We are in touch with the authorities of Purdue University and with Neel’s family. The consulate will offer all possible support and help.”

As suggested by WION, the Computer Science department head, Chris Clifton, enlightened the faculty and students regarding Acharya’s death via an email on Monday.

The missing student from India was identified as Neel Acharya.

Reportedly, the Indian student shifted to the US to complete a double major in computer science and data science.

He attended the John Martinson Honors College of Purdue University.

As mentioned earlier, the University shared the news with the students and faculty via an email on Monday, reading:

It is with great sadness that we inform you that one of our students, Neel Acharya, has passed away. He was an academically talented and driven individual. Our condolences go out to his friends, family, and all affected.

The university statement addressed Acharya as a bright student.

Indian student Neel Acharya went missing on January 28, 12.30 am. Reportedly, the computer science and data science student resided in Indiana State.

However, the university website and several official media outlets addressed Neel’s death without divulging the cause of death.

The statement mentioned a “college-aged” man matching Acharya’s description, carrying his ID, was discovered dead near the Maurice J Zucrow Laboratories on the campus at 10.30 am on Sunday.

Unfortunately, Acharya’s death came days after the expiry of another Indian student.

The student was brutally killed by a homeless man with repeated blows from a hammer.

The tragic incident took place inside a store in Lithonia, Georgia, US. However, it is unsure when the missing student’s body will be sent back to his family in India.
