We’re not even into fall yet, but Netflix is already preparing its upcoming holiday film slate! According to a new report from What’s On Netflix, Netflix has acquired the rights to the bestselling novel The Noel Diary by Richard Paul Evan.

This Is Us alum Justin Hartley has been tapped to star in the film alongside Bonnie Bedelia and Treat Williams. For those unfamiliar with the novel, it has a pretty length synopsis but Netflix describes the movie as a story about a man who returns home to take care of his estranged mother’s estate and falls in love with a former acquaintance.

Based on the book and the film title, we can assume that the story will deal with what he finds at home, specifically in an old diary left behind by someone named Noel.

The film is directed by Charles Shyer, he also penned the screenplay with Rebecca Connor and David Golden.

“I wanted to adapt this novel for a few different reasons. The story of The Noel Diary felt to me like one that could comfortably embrace humor and humanity – while at the same time offer great visual and directorial possibilities. A movie that, as Billy Wilder once said, ‘Could make ’em laugh and make ’em cry.’ I chose to cast Justin Hartley from his work on This Is Us.  I just knew that, given his remarkable range, Justin could knock this one out of the park,” says director and co-writer Charles Shyer.

Additionally, Hartley will executive produce the film with Norman Stephens and Andrew Gernhard. Timothy O. Johnson, Stephanie Slack and Margret H. Huddleston will produce.

The Netflix page for the film reveals that the movie will be released on November 24, 2022.

Justin Hartley will star as the main character, a bestselling author who returns home to get his mother’s affairs in order after her passing. Other cast members include Golden Globe nominee Bonnie Bedelia and Emmy nominee Treat Williams.

"When best-selling author Jake Turner (Justin Hartley) returns home at Christmas to settle his estranged mother’s estate, he discovers a diary that may hold secrets to his own past and that of Rachel (Barrett Doss) – an intriguing young woman on a mission of her own. Together, they embark on a journey to confront their pasts and discover a future that’s totally unexpected."

There is no trailer yet and we probably should not expect to see teasers or trailers until October or early November. With Halloween coming up, Netflix will probably be releasing more Netflix & Chills content for their 2022 line-up, but it is possible we could see a first look for this movie at the Tudum event in September.
