Rodney George Laver AC MBE is a past tennis player in Australia. He was born on August 9, 1938, in Rockhampton, Queensland. He was the third child of four siblings.

Later began his tennis career as a teenager which lasted for 24 years just after he left school. Laver was trained by coach Charlie Hollis in Queensland and later by Hary Hopman Captain of the Australian Davis Cup team who gave him the name “Rocket”.

In 1957, he became an Australian and US junior champion. He became prominent internationally in 1959 on the world stage, when he touched all three finals at Wimbledon, attaining with Darlene Hard the mixed doubles title. He turned professional in December 1962 after he attained the Davis Cup with the Australian team.

Rockhampton Tennis Association in Victoria Park precinct in Wandal was named the Rod Laver Hall in December 1963 when it was completed.

He competed at the hall until the age of 14, the hall was named after him in recognition of his Grand Slam in the subsequent year.
